Dal Pakora Recipe


  • Yellow matar dal (yellow Split Pea Dal) :1 Cup
  • Green chili : 2,finely chopped
  • Ginger paste : 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin powder: 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder : 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric : a pinch (optional)
  • Black cumin seed (kalonji) : a pinch
  • Sugar: 1/2 tsp (optional)
  • Salt : as per taste
  • Oil : to deep fry

Grind yellow Split Pea Dal,mix with a few spices and deep fry yields a crispy and crunchy tea time snack.

This is favorite street snack in India. This is also made in household for tea time snack especially in dewali. Dal Pakoras are often eaten during Iftar,in the month of Ramadan.

  • Serves: 3-4 persons
  • Preparation time: 5 minutes
  • Cooking time: 15 minutes

Procedure : Dal Pakora Recipe

  • Soak dal in three cup of water for 5 to 6 hours (it is better to soak overnight).
  • Drain the excess water and coarsely grind in a grinder or in mortar and pestle.
  • Take it in a bowl and mix all other ingredients except oil.
  • Heat oil in a pan for deep fry.
  • Take a tea spoon of batter and drop it in hot oil. Repeat this as much as possible in a batch but taken care that each separate from other.
  • When one side is fried brown,flip carefully to fry other side.
  • Fry till brown from all the side.
  • Drain excess oil on a kitchen paper.
  • Serve hot with green chutney and a cup of hot tea.
